Cody Johnson Releases “Blame Texas” on Texas Independence Day

Texas native Cody Johnson celebrates his home state’s Independence Day today with the release of “Blame Texas.” Written by Ashley Gorley, Josh Phillips, Beau Bailey, and Casey Brown, the song is available NOW on all digital platforms.

Texas Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. The declaration, signed by 59 delegates, formally declared settlers in Mexican Texas independent of Mexico and established the Republic of Texas.

“Blame Texas” is the successor to “Travelin’ Soldier,” released last fall. It debuted at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking Cody’s highest-charting song to date. The track was featured on all major streaming playlists and amassed nearly 15 million streams worldwide in its first week. To date, “Travelin’ Soldier” has garnered more than 200 Million global streams and also reached #1 on SiriusXM The Highway Hot 30 Weekend Countdown.

Cody’s meteoric rise continues with the current radio single “The Fall” reaching #10 on Billboard, increasing more than 625,0000 in audience this week, and landing at #10 on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart this week.

The “Cody Johnson Live 26” tour continues this weekend with shows in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Later this month, he will headline a concert-only performance on Sunday, March 22, at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This marks the fourth concert-only performance in the rodeo’s history, the first since George Strait performed on the final night in 2022. Openers on this year's tour include Clint Black, Annie Bosko, Randy Houser, Scotty McCreery, Kip Moore, Ian Munsick, Jon Pardi, Drew Baldridge, Chayce Beckham, Carter Faith, Alexandra Kay, Parker McCollum, Walker Montgomery, and Emily Ann Roberts.
